Communications Manager
General Summary:
Reports to Vice President of Retail
As a communications Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and managing both internal and external communications for the Greater Houston Retailers Association (GHRA). This dynamic position requires a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills, the ability to convey complex messages clearly, and a keen understanding of brand management. You will be responsible for crafting compelling narratives, ensuring consistency in messaging, and fostering positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Functions:
Internal Communication:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communication strategy that aligns with organizational goals and values.
- Create engaging content for various internal channels, including magazine, intranet, and email communications.
- Facilitate communication between different departments to ensure a unified and cohesive organizational message.
- Organize and lead internal events to promote team building, collaboration, and a positive corporate culture.
- Manage the internal communication calendar, ensuring timely and relevant distribution of information.
External Communication:
- Develop and execute external communication strategies to enhance the company’s brands and reputation.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, building and maintaining positive relationships with media outlets.
- Collaborate with others to craft press releases, articles, and other materials to communicate key messages and milestones to external audiences.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage to identify opportunities and address potential issues.
- Coordinate with marketing teams to ensure consistency in messaging across all external communication channels.
Brand Support:
- Uphold and enhance the organization’s brand identity by ensuring consistency in messaging and visual elements.
- Collaborate with design teams to create visually appealing and effective communication materials.
- Develop and enforce brand guidelines to maintain a unified brand image.
Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends and competitor communications.
Experience and Skills:
- Proven experience in communications, with a focus on both internal and external messaging.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms.

Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
Physical Requirements:
- May be driving, standing, or sitting for extend period of times.
- Able to lift, carry, and lower totes weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Some days of prolonged walking
